By facilitating an international network of researchers, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, people with SCI and their supporters, we strive to improve the lives of people living with SCI in Canada and around the world. The Commercialization Analyst is responsible for assisting in identifying commercialization opportunities from health-tech research discoveries and innovations, and helping newly formed companies find a development path through incubation/acceleration partners to early stage investment. The role requires strong business acumen and critical thinking, paired with a well-developed sense of vision and realistic expectations.

The research and market focus of the role is in the area of spinal cord injury and related complications. RHI’s role is in the facilitation of commercialization of research discovery and invention rather than in direct investment. 

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES  

 Work with and assist the Director of Commercialization in:

Partner Management

  • Developing strategies for expanding business opportunities
  • Managing relationships with external individuals and organizations through business communication, attending strategy meetings, and assisting and advising
  • Conducting research of companies that may form potential business partners, including identifying target markets
  • Collaborating with other departments to achieve common goals by way of meeting coordination, project planning and other activities, as required

Company Management 

  • Collaborating, mentoring and guiding start-up businesses or researchers through the business lifecycle and/or product development and launching cycle
  • Developing methods to establish and facilitate joint ventures
  • Developing, writing and implementing proposals for new business centers
  • Identifying project risks and tracking business issues until resolution
  • Providing support on strategic growth projects to help us achieve our vision

Reporting

  • Writing and preparing various types of business reports, including informational and analytical
  • Preparing and presenting business presentations for stakeholders 
  • Preparing documentation for Grants, Contracts, Approval Forms etc. as needed
  • Preparing documentation for reporting evidence to funding agencies (provincial and federal), and creating summary documentation for funder reporting requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Three to five years of experience in communications and planning
  • Experience launching, or working with one or more start-up companies
  • Experience negotiating or closing deals, including preparation, information exchange and validation, bargaining, concluding and executing
  • Experience using CRM systems

Skills/Behaviours

  • Understanding of market analysis, with the ability to identify gaps and opportunities missed and ability to make recommendations
  • Understanding of value proposition, product/market fit, and the process to define and refine

  • Understanding of business incubators and accelerators, their role, and the advantages and disadvantages
